$18 million landfill to be constructed east of Rexburg
EAST IDAHO NEWS, November 1, 2022

REXBURG — The US Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDA-RD) has approved an $18 million permanent financing package for the Eastern Idaho Regional Solid Waste District (District) to construct a landfill facility in the Newdale area, east of Rexburg.

The District will operate the facility, as well as hauling, for the disposal of materials from county transfer stations. The 1,000-acre Newdale site was secured through a land exchange with the State Land Board and the Idaho Department of Lands. The centrally located site will provide capacity for well into the next century, based on historic and recent growth projections. Read Full Article

Teton County joins regional effort to construct new landfill
TETON VALLEY NEWS, October 19, 2022

Teton County is partnering with neighboring counties to construct a new centralized landfill with the intention of saving regional residents money in waste hauling and disposal.

The Eastern Idaho Regional Solid Waste District was formed to address solid waste disposal in the region over a decade ago. More recently, the governmental entity, which has a representative from each of the member county’s board of commissioners, began pursuing the possibility of opening a new landfill in Madison County.
